The 1986 Ben Johnson Pro-Celebrity Roping and Cutting and Auction event benfitting Children's Medical Research took place recently at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie. A "Party of the Stars" in the arena's Roper's Cantina followed the roping and cutting competition.
Guests, pros and celebrities gathered for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and enjoyed the lively music of "The Gristle Heads," an El Reno band. The Daily Grind, Guthrie, provided the food.
Among the celebrities and pros competing in the weekend benefit were Roy Cooper, Bob Macy, Doug McClure, Buck Taylor, Steve Zabel, James Drury, Danny Williams, Gene McLaughlin, J.D. Yates, Gary Gist, Jerry Potter, Casey Tibbs, Dr. Ignacio Rodriguez, Kenny Call, Sally Hampton, Billy Minick, Red Steagall, Eddie Hinton, Mike McGaughy, Pamela Minick, Wilford Brimley, Anne Lockhart, Ben Miller, Walt Garrison, John Miller, Robert Hays and Larry Wilcox.
