Turning 50 the day before the U.S. Senior Open begins at Oak Tree National, Scott Verplank is trying to get his game in shape before making his Champions Tour debut July 10-13 on his home course.

“I’m making progress, but I’m definitely not where I think I need to be,” Verplank said Monday at the Patriot Cup in Owasso. “Then again, (Thunder star) Serge Ibaka wasn’t where he wanted to be (Sunday) night, and he played really good, so I have hope.

A first-round pick two years ago by Cleveland, Weeden threw for a Browns rookie-record 3,385 yards. He injured his thumb early last season, and then lost the starting job after throwing for 1,731 yards, nine touchdowns and nine interceptions.
