Patsy Sutton, the wife of former Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton and a woman long projected as the matriarch of the state’s first family of basketball, has died.

Sutton, also the mother of Oral Roberts coach Scott Sutton and ORU assistant Sean Sutton – who also served as the head coach at OSU – and Tulsa banker Steve Sutton, had been in St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa since suffering a major stroke Dec. 28.
She was 74.
The Sutton family had been asking for prayers since her hospitalization, leading to an outpouring of support from around the state.
Patsy was often referred to as the "rock" of the Sutton family, credited with providing strength and love during challenges and trials that included health problems for Eddie and Sean.
"The Sutton family would like to thank everyone for the prayers and thoughts that have surrounded and been given to us the last days we have been at Saint Francis Hospital," Steve Sutton, the oldest son said in a written statement Tuesday.
"We have lost a wonderful and cherished wife, mother, mother-in-law, friend and ‘our honey.’ Thank you again for the outpouring of support you have given our family."
A memorial service is scheduled 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 1115 S. Boulder Ave., in Tulsa.
