Peanut, orangutan with cancer, and twin turn 9
MIAMI (AP) — An orangutan that received cancer treatments and her twin sister are celebrating their ninth birthday.
Peanut and Pumpkin turn nine on Sunday. Miami's Jungle Island is hosting a birthday celebration for park visitors. The admission price will be donated to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, which helped provide "world-class care to Peanut during her chemotherapy treatment."
Peanut and Pumpkin are only the third set of orangutan twins to be born in captivity. They are a hit with park visitors, using sign language and an iPad to communicate with trainers.
Peanut's chemotherapy ended last month after her medical team announced it was time to wrap up her treatments for the aggressive lymphoma.
