CROWNING THE KING

Event: The 68th annual Beaux Arts Ball and presentation of the Beaux Arts king, debutantes and their escorts.

Venue: Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.

The king: James C. Meade was introduced as Beaux Arts king, and as he made his way to the red cushioned king's chair in the Great Hall, more than 500 guests erupted in applause. Meade was accompanied by 9-year-old pages Connor Evans and Peter FitzSimons.

The decor: As they entered the club, arriving guests thought the calendar had been turned back to showcase a summer garden. Masses of pink and white flowers, including roses, hydrangeas and peonies mixed with a variety of green succulents as well as areas of green grass and shrubbery, created a soft, lush somewhat contemporary look, thanks to Gene and Jim Vallion's skilled imagination. Used throughout the rooms, clusters of these flowers centered with gold crowns, were repeated over the mantel and draped around doorways. Tables held the same color floral arrangements arranged in white contemporary containers. Green cloths and white napkins, with either silver or white bamboo chairs, completed the look in the dining areas. Panels on the doors leading to the Great Hall were criss crossed with two shades of green fabric.
