LOOKING UP

Event: Symphony Show House Gala — SKY BALL: A View to A Thrill.

Where: Founders Tower Penthouse, 18th floor, also location for the 2014 Symphony Show House.

What: VIP pre-party; cocktails and buffet of gourmet foods by The George Prime Steakhouse. Live music by The Heather Nelson Band, wine pull and silent auction. More than 250 guests attended the benefit to kick off the events for the Symphony Show House. The Show House will open to the public May 3-18.

To benefit: Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestra and music programs for children.

Ambassadors: Julie and Jim Lowe.

Co-chairmen: Sherry Crosthwait and Laurie Barbour.

LITERARY ACCLAIM

Event: Ralph Ellison Centennial Gala.

Venue: Oklahoma History Center.

What: Dinner, live entertainment, tributes from local and national dignitaries and keynote address from John F. Callahan, Ellison's literary executor.

To benefit: Ralph Ellison Foundation.

Need to know: A native of Oklahoma City, the late Ralph Ellison was an internationally renowned writer and author of the 1953 National Book Award-winning novel “Invisible Man.”

HELPING HANDS

Event: Taste of Oklahoma.

To benefit: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma.

Where: First National Center.

The program: Food from Oklahoma City restaurants, silent and live auctions, wine pull, music and dancing with Laura Leighe Music band.
