Event: The Winter Ball.
Venue: Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.
To benefit: The Allied Arts Foundation.
The evening: More than 300 guests paid $350 a plate to attend this invitation-only black-tie gala. Beautifully cut long gowns, many ablaze with fashion glitz, rivaled the breathtaking decorations created by Jim and Gena Vallion. Dozens of full-size trees, primarily cedars and aspen, covered in “snow,” lined the walls of the rooms. A variety of spring flowers, including tulips, bloomed in the “snow” at the bottom of the trees, which were lit by blue lights. The mantel in the Great Room and occasional tables held aspen tree trunks cut into wood stacks covered in “snow.” Table centerpieces repeated the large white floral centerpiece in the entry, some in towering vases and others in low containers. Tables were lit from underneath, shining through sheer fabric tablecloths.
Chairmen: Susan Parker was chairman and Seyan Hefner co-chairman. Committee chairmen were Sally Lenz, Karen Browne, Carol Joullian, Marianne Rooney, Marilyn Meade, Bebe MacKellar, Sody Clements, Alden Snipes, Shirley Everest, and Lynn Kelly.
Seen: Spotted among the Allied Arts patrons, either visiting or on the dance floor, were Jane Harlow and Billy Bowden, Ann and Barry Gray, Christy and Jim Everest, Polly and Larry Nichols, Herb and Karen Klonz, Lou Kerr and Gene Binning, Sue Ann and James Dudley, Mac and Carol Troy, Lela and Mark Sullivan, Ted Elam, Morton and Libby Payne III, Jan and Richard Parker, Judy Love, Virginia and Jim Meade, Bill Hawley and Marilyn Balyeat, and Jerriann and Geoffrey Altshuler.
