Event: Festival of Hope.
Where: National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
To benefit: HeartLine, Oklahoma's Community Crisis Connection.
What: Touted as “An Evening of Acclamation & Admiration,'' the event honored Martha Burger, Desmond Mason and the Rev. George Edwin Young Sr. for improving the quality of life for people in Oklahoma. St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School received the Advocate of Hope Award for excelling in suicide prevention, education and awareness. Dr. Louise Thurman was Honorary Chairman. The evening also included a dinner and auction.
Need to Know: Celebrating the power of hope, this benefit was timed to take place before National Suicide Prevention Week.
KEEPING THE CHILDREN SAFE
Event: Melody Lane Benefit – New York Style.
Hosted By: Oklahoma chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America accredited by the Exchange Club Foundation.
Presenting Sponsor: James R. Brown Private Foundation.
Venue: Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.
The Evening: The benefit was a celebration of 25 years of service and the 17th annual Melody Lane benefit. Dinner was served from buffet stations, and Randy Lunsford played for dancing. Jenifer Reynolds was the master of ceremonies, and Pat Patterson auctioneered silent and live auctions. Board president Brad Davenport welcomed the guests.
Co-Chairmen: Jacque Wright and Janet Brown. Billie Brown is the executive director.
THE WINNING NUMBER
Event: Best in Ten 2013.
Presented by: Carpenter Square Theatre.
What: A 30th Birthday Celebration to help support programming for the theatre's 30th anniversary season and educational outreach programs for at-risk students in the metro area. Tribute was paid to Vickie Wilcox, longtime supporter and award-winning actress. Featured were staged readings of the winning plays from the theatre's 10th annual “Ten-Minute Play Contest.'' The selected playwrights were Janet Bristow and Janis Contway, of Edmond, and Rick Allen Lippert and Marie C. Filippino, of Oklahoma City. The evening also included silent and live auctions and food donated by Casa Perico, Deep Fork Grill, Gary Glenn's BBQ, Gopurum Taste of India, Swels' Pita Bakery, Jack Mitchell and Marilyn Veal and a wine pull.
