Peggy Gandy: Social Scene

Honored: William J. and Robert J. Ross received the John Kirkpatrick Award for their deep sense of commitment to musical theater and theater education.

The evening: Guests were invited to wear black-tie or Gothic attire in keeping with the theme of the evening. Several Lyric performers sang selections from Broadway shows and characters from the “Adams Family'' television show introduced them. Master of ceremonies Linda Cavanaugh and Artistic Director Michael Baron welcomed the guests and announced the live auction hawked by Barry Wichert. The Burton Band played for dancing.

Chairmen: Susan Chambers was chairman and her co-chairman was Debbie Nauser.

A BLOOMING AFFAIR

Event: Orchids in October Luncheon.

Venue: Myriad Botanical Gardens.

Hosted by: Myriad Gardens Foundation.

Honored: Larry Nichols received the James R. Tolbert III Crystal Orchid Award, a crystal vase, in recognition of his extraordinary generosity and foresight for the renovation of the Myriad Botantical Gardens. The award was presented by James R. Tolbert III. Gerry Bonds, foundation president, Mayor Mick Cornett and Maureen Heffernan, executive director, also took part in the ceremony, which was held on the Water Stage.

The facts: Around 400 guests braved the wind to attend this event, which took place in this idyllic setting with water flowing (complete with quacking ducks) behind the stage and flora and fauna surrounding the area. In his acceptance speech Nichols mentioned the Colcord Hotel, seen in the distance, was the first downtown high rise. After the ceremony guests made their way to the Garden Restaurant and a large white tent on the grounds for a seated luncheon beautifully presented by Nonna's Euro-American Ristorante and Bar. Co-chairmen were Michael Laird and Meg Salyer.
