HAIL TO THE KING

Event: The 67th annual Beaux Arts Ball and presentation of the Beaux Arts king, debutantes and their escorts.

Venue: Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.

The king: David Rainbolt was introduced as Beaux Arts king and then made his way as close to 600 guests clapped and cheered through the rooms to the Great Hall to a red-cushioned king's chair. His young pages, dressed in white satin coats and knickers, were Drake Parsons and Michael Crabb.

The decor: Floral designers Jim and Genea Vallion sprinkled their usual “magic dust'' throughout the rooms to create an elaborate lush floral garden. The foyer was lined with lattice fences, which were covered in live boxwood and large bouquets of flowers in cerise, red, pink and yellow colors. Pictures of the debs and escorts were mounted between the flowers. A large oval-shaped arrangement in the same colors was suspended above the entry hall table. These colors were reflected in the flowers banked on the mantel and over archways. Centerpieces were smaller versions centered on tablecloths in varying shades of cerise.

Tradition: Past Beaux Arts kings were introduced as they walked from an upstairs private dinner through the rooms to their tables. Escorts in pairs were introduced, made their bows to the king, and stepped up on risers in front of the fireplace, which flanked the throne. Debutantes in long white dresses and gloves, escorted by their fathers, walked through the rooms, made their curtsies to the king and joined the escorts on the risers. Following this traditional ceremony, the king and his wife, Kim, led off the dancing, followed by debs and their fathers, followed by escorts and debs and the rest of the guests. The Wavetones Band played for the processional and the dancing. Jeremy Gossett announced the court members.
