LAND OF THE FREE
Event: Quail Creek 4th of July parade.
Sponsored by: Quail Creek Homeowners Association.
What: Parade entrants began lining up early in Quail Creek Golf & Country Club's parking lot. Neighbors were visiting and mothers and fathers (as well as dog owners) were putting last minute red, white and blue touches on their kids, vehicles and pets. The parade featured excitement and fun with large doses of Americana: Star-shaped sunglasses and earrings, red, white and blue hats (for animals and humans) as well as striped hair in the same colors were spotted everywhere. Decorated golf carts, kiddie carts and anything in between with wheels were covered in the holiday colors. My favorite was a golf cart, with parents holding a small baby, and a large sign on front that read “This is my first 4th of July.” Don Bobzien's red, white and blue tie, which he wore as a belt, always adds a nice fashion touch every year. The parade wound across 122nd to Quail Creek Park, where the Pirannahs played. Simon Shingleton was master of ceremonies, and state Rep. Randy McDaniel, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts did the patriotic honors. Kraetteli and Kay Epperson served watermelon.
