Event: Quail Creek Fourth of July Parade.
Where: Quail Creek Golf & Country Club parking lot to Quail Creek Park.
What: All the red, white and blue bells and whistles, which included Uncle Sam hats, stars, stripes and sparkles on everything wearable, made this annual parade a wonderful bit of American pride expressed by an imaginative, patriotic neighborhood. Throw in the bikes, trikes, wagons, scooters, golf carts, convertibles, vintage cars, riding toys, strollers, trucks and “dudded up” pets, and you have this annual parade led by Oklahoma City Motorcycle Policemen Jimmy Martin and Jerry Bowen. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts walked behind the Station 15 fire truck, which gave Uncle Sam (Kim Kimberling) a ride on top. Grand marshal for the parade was Mozelle Houser, riding in a convertible. Houser, who moved to Quail Creek in 1962, is the longest neighborhood resident. The Piranha Brothers played at the park, and state Sen. David Holt and state Rep. Randy McDaniel spoke.
Sponsored by: Quail Creek Home Owners Association. Berta Faye Rex was parade chairman.
Judging: Don, Shawn, Paige and Lane Abernathy were chairmen of the parade judging. Other judges were Mary Ann Audd, Don and Barbara Dennis, Neal and Carol Dobry, John and Jeannie Drake, Yvette and Joe Fleckinger, David Tarpenning, Nancy Kimberling, Gracie Moyers, Nancy Nathaniel, Debbie Nevard, Ric and Jeannie Penner, Janet and Mark Price, Dee Richardson, Evelyn Tidholm, Sally Townley, Jon and Sandy Trudgeon.
Winners: McKinley Walker, Arvie and Drew Golgart, Hailey Jayne and Hanna Kate Johnson, Blake Slavonic, Ty, Laura and Dylan Kaul, Bailey, service dog, Zoe Epperson, Luke Strickland, Violet Grimes, Carter Akin, Nick Rouse and James Mitchell families, Ally Lewis.
