METAIRIE, La. (AP) — The New Orleans Pelicans have signed forward James Southerland for the final four games of the season, starting with Friday night's contest at Oklahoma City.
The signing of the 6-foot-8 Southerland, announced Friday, comes one day after New Orleans decided to sit out All-Star forward Anthony Davis for rest of the season to rest his sore back.
Southerland, who played for Syracuse's 2013 Final Four team, has been playing for the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League this season, appearing in 42 games with 14 starts and averaging 14.7 points and 6.5 rebounds in 28.6 minutes per game.
Southern also appeared in one NBA game earlier this season with the Charlotte Bobcats.
