METAIRIE, La. (AP) — The New Orleans Pelicans' new $15 million practice headquarters is complete and ready for training camp, which opens Oct. 1.
The facility includes two full-size courts, player and staff locker rooms, a weight room, a stadium-style theater for video review, meeting rooms, a dining area and offices.
The building sits on the same property as the practice headquarters and front offices for the New Orleans Saints.
Both clubs are owned by Tom Benson, who received $10 million in state money for the Pelicans' practice center. The state money was set aside in 2002, when the franchise, then known as the Hornets, moved to new Orleans from Charlotte.
Meanwhile, team president Dennis Lauscha says the club has surpassed 12,000 in season tickets for the first time in New Orleans.
