CAMBRIDGE, Md. (AP) — The House's top Democrat is strongly opposing President Barack Obama's bid for greater leeway in making trade deals with other nations.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday she can't accept the so-called fast-track legislation the president seeks. Many unions and their Democratic supporters are wary of such presidential authority.

Pelosi told a steelworkers' rally that the proposed fast-track legislation is, in her words, "out of the question."

Pelosi later told reporters at a House Democratic gathering that she is not rejecting "the president's trade agenda." But she says she wants changes to the fast-track proposal.

Pelosi is a California Democrat and former House speaker.
