Dodgers right-hander Brad Penny, who is from Broken Arrow, is scheduled to start Friday against the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Penny, who was 5-9 with a 5.88 earned-run average when he was sidelined because of a sore right shoulder, made a rehab start for Triple-A Las Vegas against the RedHawks Saturday night. Penny told the Times he thought he could probably throw 100 pitches Friday based on how he felt over his four innings at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. He gave up two runs in six hits, and his fastball reached 98 mph. "I didn't expect anything different than what happened,” he said. •Yankees place Chamberlain on DL: Joba Chamberlain has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the New York Yankees with rotator cuff tendinitis in his pitching shoulder. The club said Chamberlain will rest for about a week before beginning a throwing program Chamberlain was sent to see noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews after undergoing an MRI on his ailing right shoulder Tuesday. The 22-year-old right-hander was removed from Monday night's start against the Rangers in the fifth inning with stiffness in his shoulder. Chamberlain was moved from the bullpen to the rotation this season. He is 4-3 with a 2.63 ERA in 32 games, including 12 starts. •Rockies claim Livan Hernandez: The Colorado Rockies acquired 33-year-old right-hander Livan Hernandez off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. The former World Series MVP and two-time All-Star was 10-8 with a 5.48 ERA in 23 starts before the Twins designated him for assignment Friday. •Rangers give Guardado closer's role: The Texas Rangers' new closer is old-timer Eddie Guardado, still getting hitters out at the age of 37. Guardado, who's been the Rangers' most consistent setup man this season, takes over for C.J. Wilson, who was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list with bone spurs in his left elbow. Wilson had an MRI exam and will fly to Los Angeles today to be examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum, who performed Wilson's elbow ligament replacement surgery in 2004. From Wire Reports
