Perry native Travis Brorsen and his dog, Presley, graduated from Canine
Academy with honors on Wednesday.
Presley earned the title of "Greatest American Dog” on the finale of the CBS reality competition series. Brorsen, his owner, pocketed the $250,000 cash prize.
"We accomplished what we came to do and that was to develop a bond and friendship between owner and dog,” Brorsen said at the end of the episode. "We came here as a guy with a dog. Ten weeks later, we are leaving with the ‘Greatest American Dog' title.”
Brorsen's family and friends in Perry were thrilled with the outcome. Somehow, Brorsen had kept the victory secret for weeks since the final episode was taped.
"We thought he would make it to the finals, but we didn't have a clue that he would win,” said Verl Brorsen, Travis' dad. "It was like a come-from-behind victory in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, and everybody went crazy.
"We had a great time following the show. It's not very often that you get to watch your kid once a week on TV for 10 weeks. It was fun.”
Travis Brorsen is an Oklahoma State University graduate and an actor in Los Angeles.
