NORMAN — Norman Animal Welfare shelter workers sold 66 pet licenses, implanted 35 identifying microchips and gave 61 rabies shots at a special low-cost animal clinic Saturday.
“We were thrilled at the number of people who turned out for it. We got a really good response,” shelter employee Holly Rains said.
Norman residents are required by law to license their dogs and cats annually, Rains said. Workers felt like the clinic really boosted compliance with the law, she said.
Kara Maryesky brought her two collies, Connor and Gaylen, for vaccinations.
“It's just a great chance to get shots at a decent price. We have three dogs, so it gets pretty expensive,” Maryesky said.
Kathy Shatley arrived with her two Boston terriers, Baby Ruth and Gunner, to get shots and buy licenses.
“We just moved to Norman so we wanted to get their licenses and make sure all their shots were current,” Shatley said.
Pet licenses are valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 each year. The cost is $16 for pets that have not been spayed or neutered, and $8 for animals that have. For more information about the licenses, call 292-9736.
