Two Norman seniors have been honored with scholarships from the Norman chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.
NORMAN — The Norman chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, also known as PFLAG, has awarded scholarships to two high school seniors.
Quincy Allen, a student at Norman North High School, and Savannah Antell, a student at Norman High School, will receive $1,000 toward their college educations.
The PFLAG Norman Scholarship Fund was established to support and encourage Norman youths who have supported gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youths as members of a gay-straight alliance, known as GSA. Additional selection criteria are academic record, leadership experience, an essay, letters of recommendation and a plan to continue one's education.
Allen has enrolled at the University of Central Oklahoma to study dance. He is a member of his school's varsity pom team and has won numerous dance awards.
Antell plans to major in philosophy at the University of Central Oklahoma. Antell has participated in Oklahoma City Youth United and many activities at her church, besides being an active member of GSA.
PFLAG holds a support group meeting at 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 1801 W Brooks St. For more information about PFLAG of Norman, call 360-4497.
