Furyk feeling better, but unsure about game
Jim Furyk has been on a roller coaster since arriving at Southern Hills because of a back injury that caused him to withdraw from the
Bridgestone Invitational. It appears to be ending on a high note.

Club pro living the dream after ‘little bit of a battle'

"I was one happy person last night when I went to bed, because I felt so much better,” Furyk said Wednesday. "And I woke up this morning less stiff than I really was at my best yesterday.”
Translation: The world's No. 2 player is fit enough to play in the PGA Championship.
Furyk has been considered one of the favorites at Southern Hills because of his accuracy, shotmaking skills and a course that doesn't require power off the tee. Now he's happy to be playing, even though he is rusty and still not feeling his best.
He played nine holes for the third straight day Wednesday, then went to the range to hit a bucket of balls before stopping halfway through because he felt fatigue set in.
"My movement is pretty good,” Furyk said. "I'm still not 100 percent, but I'm healthy enough to make the swings that I want to. I have the ability. But I've had about a week off, and I'm swinging at it terrible right now.”
A week off might have seemed to be the best thing for Furyk.
Because of a change in the PGA Tour schedule, he chose to defend his title in the Canadian Open a week after the British Open. That gave him a run of eight tournaments in nine weeks, until he was forced to sit out last week from Firestone.
Furyk said he believes the injury was related to travel — from Florida to Scotland, from Scotland to Canada, from Canada to Ohio.
"Playing all those events in a row and adding the long travel back and forth definitely put some stress on me,” he said. "And possibly, that's what took its toll.”
But he was confident he could play all four events leading to the Tour Championship and the conclusion of the FedEx Cup.
