A judge today ruled pharmacist Jerome Jay Ersland's murder trial next year can be televised once the jury is selected.

Ersland, 58, of Chickasha fatally shot robber Antwun "Speedy" Parker on May 19 at the Reliable Discount Pharmacy in south Oklahoma City.

Prosecutors say he went too far when he shot the unarmed robber five more times after knocking the robber out with a shot to the head.

Ersland said he was defending himself and two female employees from a masked robber who was still moving. He also has said he thought Parker had a gun.

District Judge Tammy Bass-LeSure approved requests from stations in Oklahoma City and Tulsa to televise the trial.

She also approved a request from The Oklahoman and NewsOK.com to take photos inside the courtroom and to show the trial on the newspaper's Web site.

No trial date has been set.
