Netherlands Fish Farms
Adri Bout shines a light as he inspects turbot swimming in a tank at Seafarm, a fish farm in Kamperland, southern Netherlands, Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, where owner Adri Bout is trying new ways to solve common problems like disease control and waste disposal. Bout designed an eight-story high-rise tank where he raises 100 tons of turbot a year, in water which is kept cool enough so bacteria does not spread and using gravity to circulate the water. Forget about the romance of fishermen braving rough seas to bring home their catch, sustainability is a growing issue in aquaculture which now provides half the world's sea food.
