Jerry Sloan, Evansville
In 1977, Jerry Sloan, the just-retired NBA guard accepted the job at his alma mater, Evansville. But six days later, Sloan changed his mind. Two years later, Sloan was hired as a Chicago Bulls assistant and eventually spent 24 years as the Utah Jazz coach. Evansville instead hired Bobby Watson, who died along with the rest of the Evansville squad in a December 1977 plane crash.
