JALAPENO EATING CONTEST

Firefighter Zachary Lawrence led his team to victory as he consumes one of 10 jalapenos toward the total number of 24 jalapenos eaten by firefighters. Oklahoma City police officers and firefighters squared off against each other in a jalapeno eating contest at the Whataburger restaurant at NW 36 and MacArthur, Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010. Firefighters were victorious, eating 24 jalapenos in the designated one minute time limit. They received a $750 check to be donated to the MDA. The police officers received a $250 check that will be donated to the Police Action League. It was all done in fun to raise money for charities and in the spirit of friendly competition between the two groups, one firefighter remarked, after his fellow firefighters were declared winners, " we're just lucky it wasn't doughnuts!". Everyone laughed. Photo by Jim Beckel, The Oklahoman
