Photos: D-Day then and now

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the landings at Normandy, which is the largest seaborne invasion in history that eventually led to an Allied victory in World War II. Thousands lost their lives during the invasion in order to pave the way for a better today.

There are some striking images of that day, and a gallery on imgur shows those photos alongside recent photographs of the same locations and places. Here are a handful of them, but do check out the gallery for the complete set.
