PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix International Raceway will celebrate 50 years of racing next year with special events and appearances by noteworthy drivers.
The celebration will include an interactive race-day exhibit with photos, race-used memorabilia and classic cars with ties to the track.
There also will be community outreach programs with drivers and personalities, a fan engagement program focused on the most influential people in the history of the raceway, along with commemorative publications and broadcasts.
PIR held its first professional race on March 22, 1964, won by A.J. Foyt.
The 1½-mile oval is the site for two NASCAR Sprint Cup races, including the penultimate Chase race on Nov. 10.
