NewsOK.com exclusive: Thursday night football's impact

Not every Thursday Night Football game on ESPN will impact the Oklahoma Sooners' bid for a national championship. Not every Thursday night game will be like last week, when Oregon State shocked USC.
But don't discount tonight's South Florida-Pitt game. South Florida is ranked 10th and, playing at home, is a heavy favorite over Pitt. USF has few tough games left. The Bulls will be favored in every game except their Dec. 6 finale at West Virginia.
If South Florida runs the table and finishes 12-0, they will be in contention for the BCS title game. South Florida would not go ahead of another unbeaten team from a BCS conference, but the Bulls could take a slot from a once-beaten Big 12 champ or a once-beaten SEC champ.
Pittsburgh has not been impressive, losing to Bowling Green and struggling to beat Buffalo, Iowa and Syracuse. But if Pitt can pull the upset, it gives the Big 12 and SEC contenders a little more breathing room.
