The single-engine 1962 Cessna 182E crashed while landing on the closed runway at about 6 p.m.
The runway had recently been plowed and the soil was soft, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The plane's nose gear got stuck in the mud and the aircraft flipped over, said FAA spokesman Roland Herwig. Three of the four passengers on the plane reported minor injuries, but it's the second airplane crash on the private landing strip in a month.
The grass landing strip at McGehee Catfish Restaurant was closed after a March 17 plane crash that killed Bobby Blanchard, a Texas businessman and Oklahoma native, said Roland Herwig, FAA spokesman.
The plane, registered to Dennis N. Wilson, 60, of Plano Texas, was damaged, Herwig said. Wilson, who was flying the plane wasn't injured, according to OHP.
Passengers Peggy J. Wilson of Plano; Prescott N. Wilson of Temecula, Calif., and Tammy C. Shilds of Richard, Wash. All three were taken to the Marietta hospital, where they were treated and released.
Wilson told troopers he didn't see signs that the runway was closed. The FAA is still investigating the crash, Herwig said.
