Two men escaped injury Thursday when engine problems forced them to land their airplane in a wheat field, authorities said.

The two men, who were not identified by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol or the Federal Aviation Administration, took off from Wiley Post Airport about 10:45 a.m., trooper Betsy Randolph said. They were headed for Kingfisher in the single-engine plane.

About 15 miles out, the plane experienced engine trouble and made an emergency landing in a wheat field, she said.

The site was about 5 miles southeast of Okarche.

The men walked almost a mile to a nearby farmhouse, where a friend came to pick them up.

About 1:30 p.m., they were back to Wiley Post Airport and notified the FAA and the patrol, Randolph said.

Randolph said the aircraft was registered to an owner with a Weatherford address.
