Extension service offers tips
The time to plant has arrived. According to the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service Garden Planning Guide, now is the time to plant asparagus, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, chard, kohlrabi, lettuce, onion, peas, potatoes, radishes, rhubarb, spinach and turnips. Here are some common gardening mistakes to avoid:

→Planting too closely, which prevents walking or working in the garden.

→Placing fertilizer directly in contact with plant roots or seeds.

→Cultivating deeply, resulting in injury to plant roots.

→Watering frequently or excessively so that the soil is always wet and soggy.

→Allowing weeds to grow large before elimination.

→Using chemicals not for garden crops or applying them without reading label directions.
