Police arrested a man Monday at an Oklahoma City hotel after officers found an explosive device in his pocket.

Capt. Dexter Nelson said an officer was patrolling parking lots in the 4600 block of SW 3 about 11:30 a.m. Monday and noticed a man and woman carrying duffel bags. He said the officer stopped the two and found out the man, identified as Wendall Lee Dearing, 38, had an outstanding felony warrant.

Dearing was handcuffed and detained after he told police he had an explosive device in his pocket. He was arrested on complaints of possession of an explosive device and an outstanding warrant, Nelson said.

The woman, identified as Kenna Lansdale, 28, was arrested on a complaint of possession of a controlled dangerous substance after the officer found she was carrying methamphetamine.

Nelson said the Oklahoma City Police Bomb Squad was called out to the Biltmore Hotel to investigate the device and search for other dangerous items in the area. The device in Dearing's pocket was part of a grenade that produces a small explosion, he said.

Police said the duffel bags contained components for a portable meth lab.

Dearing and Lansdale were booked into the Oklahoma County jail.
