CASHION — A search for a gunman who approached two women today near the school campus in Cashion was called off this afternoon.

Officers spent most of the day looking for the armed man seen near Cashion schools while school officials had the school on lockdown.

Kingfisher County Sheriff Dennis Banther said officers from at least eight law enforcement agencies were unable to find anyone suspicious.

Officers are expected to be at the school Friday morning to make sure parents feel comfortable leaving their children for the day, Banther said.

Parents had to sign for their children when they picked them this afternoon.

The school complex was locked down mid-morning after two women ran into a school saying a man approached them with a gun, Banther said. No one was injured.

Officers closed off a two-block area around the school complex. and checked all vehicles in the school parking lot, Banther said.

Other officers searched other areas of the city. No one or anything out of the ordinary turned up by mid-afternoon, Banther said.

One person was detained by officers this morning, but he was released without being arrested.

Officers are looking for a white man in his late teens or early 20s. He was described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighing 165 pounds and has short brown hair. He was wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the man should call 911.

Helping in the search were sheriff’s deputies from Logan, Kingfisher and Oklahoma counties, Cashion, Kingfisher and Edmond police officers, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Oklahoma Wildlife Department.

My guess is it's some recent graduate from Cashion. Some of the kids there have been known to do some idiotic things there the past few years...with virtually no consequences because of their last names...

Could it be they ran in, to warn the school officials? If so they deserve our praise for help getting the school locked down before something tragic could happen

My sister and bro-in-law's kids go to Cashion, and from the stories I've heard Cashion isn't full of rocket scientists, hence why the women would go into the school and just HOPE the gunman didn't follow them in.

I'd think like Raven, has to be somebody from out of town. They did talk to a guy who lives right north of the footbal field though. I'm not sure who lives there now, but it is the first house north.

If he was someone from town, the women should know who he was. Cashion is so tiny. If he wasn't from town, they should at least know that much.

Probably the same phantom suspect that caused Edmond Schools to go on lock down.
