HAZEN, Ark. — Arkansas State Police have identified the person killed in a chain-reaction crash that shut down Interstate 40 in east Arkansas for hours on Wednesday.

State police say 60-year-old Carl Stark of Crescent, Okla., died in the crash Wednesday in the I-40 construction zone near Hazen.

A preliminary report from state police says eastbound traffic had slowed in the single-lane zone when Stark rear-ended another tractor-trailer. That caused a chain-reaction crash involving five more vehicles.

Three other people were injured in the crash.

Traffic in both directions was rerouted as crews cleared the wreckage, which took about five hours.
