Oklahoma City police are investigating a homicide at a shopping center in northwest Oklahoma City.

Police were called about 12:50 p.m. Thursday to a business at 5916 NW 16. The caller told police a person had been shot outside, police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.

A person was found critically wounded and later died at OU Medical Center, police said.

A witness at the scene said she heard three gunshots and saw people in the shopping center parking lot run away.

Robin Hill, owner of the Stitching Post, a business next door to the shopping center, said the area has seen some hard times.

“Unfortunately, we live in hard economic times, and as we grow as a city, the crime rate just goes higher. We are praying for the victim and the victim's family,” she said.

Hill said she is grateful to her customers who remain faithful despite more crime in the area.

“We have great customers. No matter what goes on in the neighborhood, they still come and see us,” she said. “We need our police. The city needs to step up and take care of its own.”
