Oklahoma City police are investigating two shootings that occurred Thursday afternoon in southeast Oklahoma City. One shooting victim died.

Police were called about 2:20 p.m. to Wentwood at Grant Hill apartments, 419 Tinker Diagonal, in reference to shots being fired. When officers arrived they found a man fatally shot, Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said.

Many residents congregated near a window that had been shattered by a bullet that ricocheted, they said.

Residents said there was a lot of crime in the 2000s, but the complex had become quiet after new management kicked out unsavory people in the past couple of years.

Berlisa Arterberry, who was standing outside the crime scene tape, said the incident happened in her daughter's apartment. Arterberry said she came to the complex after her daughter told her about the shooting.

“She called me, crying, saying somebody got killed in her apartment,” Arterberry said. “The officers said my daughter was OK. She didn't have nothing to do with it, and that she got hit by a shot, grazed in her hand, my daughter, but she's going to be OK.”

Arterberry said the victim was her daughter's ex-boyfriend and she doesn't know why he was there.

“People over here, they're quiet. They mind their own business,” she said. “They don't have a lot of riffraff around here. If you notice, there's a lot of vacancies here. They have a no tolerance policy around here.”

Second shooting

Police received a second call concerning another gunshot victim in southeast Oklahoma City soon after the first shooting was reported. That victim was taken to OU Medical Center, Wardlow said.

Police were unsure if the two shootings were related, she said. has disabled the comments for this article.
