Shots were reportedly heard before a wreck Tuesday afternoon in southwest Oklahoma City, police said.
Police were at the scene of the wreck near Interstate 240 and Walker Avenue, shutting down off-ramps from Interstate 240 to Walker Avenue during rush-hour traffic.
A man who was shot at the Windsong Village Apartments, 7255 S Walker Ave., got into his car and drove south down Walker Avenue toward Interstate 240, police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.
While driving south, the man's car hit a Chevrolet pickup in the middle of the intersection of Walker Avenue and Interstate 240 Service Road, Knight said.
Officers were called to the area about 2:45 p.m. to investigate the crash. When officers arrived, they found the driver of the car had been shot and was no longer living, Knight said. The car was unrecognizable from the front because of the damage.
Police are investigating the incident as a homicide, he said.
Officers had the area blocked off and were searching for suspects who fled the apartment complex soon after the shooting, Knight said. No suspect description was provided Tuesday.
The occupants of the pickup involved in the accident were not injured.
