Police: New Mexico officer shoots Oklahoma man

SANTA ROSA, N.M. — Authorities say a Santa Rosa police officer has shot a 20-year-old Oklahoma man during a chase.

New Mexico State Police said the officer shot Kenny Silvers, of McAlester, Okla., early Tuesday following a pursuit near a rail yard.

According to state police, a security guard called police report a suspicious vehicle. Authorities say when the officer arrived to confront Silvers, a chase began and Silvers was later shot.

Police did not give details on the reason for chase.

The officer has not been identified and was not injured.

Authorities say Silvers was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital. His condition remains unknown.
