NORMAN — A Norman police officer involved in a traffic accident is expected to return to work this week, Norman police Capt. Leonard Judy said Monday.

Master Police Officer Joel Formby was treated for minor injuries after being involved in an accident about 10 p.m. Friday at 24th Avenue NW and Boardwalk. The driver and passengers of the other vehicle were not injured, Lt. Kyle Harris said in a news release.

According to the release, a preliminary investigation determined Formby was southbound on 24th Avenue NW when a northbound vehicle crossed the center line and struck Formby's patrol car.

Formby was not responding to a call for service, and alcohol was not involved, the release stated.

"He's fully expected to be back on duty after his regular days off,” Judy said of the injured officer.

The accident remained under investigation.
