A man who barricaded himself inside a house in northwest Oklahoma City died Saturday evening from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
The man's name was not immediately released.
Just after 1 p.m., police responded to a call from a woman thought to be the man's wife. She told police a man was armed and suicidal at a home in the 18000 block of Montoro Way.
When police arrived, the woman was on her back in the front yard while the man was beating her with a rifle, said police Capt. Dexter Nelson.
The woman escaped to safety behind a fire truck, and the man locked himself inside a house. Police and tactical teams surrounded the house and people in nearby homes were asked to leave the area.
Officers made multiple attempts to contact the man by phone and bullhorn, but the man would not respond. Through the home's front window, officers saw the man hiding inside. Police believed he was a felon and the only person inside.
Nelson said police obtained an arrest warrant for the man and a search warrant for the home, and began executing those warrants about 6 p.m. aided by robot. That's when officers heard a muffled gunshot sound.
About 6:30 p.m., officers entered the home and found the man in a bedroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
