The man, whom police were still trying to identify Saturday, was arrested after a short manhunt and taken to a hospital, McCool said. His condition was not immediately available.

No one else was hurt.

About 3:05 a.m., Sgt. Claylan Cline and officer Tyrel Hynd responded to a shots fired call at 715 SE 49, McCool said. They approached an open front door, knocked and saw a man sitting at a table.

The man picked up a gun and moved toward the front door as the officers stepped back, McCool said. He fired at them from the porch. Cline shot back, but the man ran into the house and escaped through a back window.

Additional officers, K-9 units and a helicopter searched for the man for 2 1/2 hours before a 911 call led police to a home in the 300 block of SE 57, McCool said.

The man, who had been shot, was lying on the porch of that house.

He was arrested on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, McCool said. Paramedics took him to OU Medical Center in "serious to critical condition,” an Emergency Medical Services Authority spokeswoman said.

Cline was placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, McCool said. He is an eight-year police veteran.

Neighbors alarmed
Betty Adkisson, 77, who lives a few houses down across the street from the incident, said she was awakened by a loud noiseShe said she was scared and curious.

"I looked out the window and saw lights flashing and police cars, so I knew something was going on,” she said.

Adkisson said the neighborhood is normally quiet and she doesn’t remember anything troubling happening at the house before.

Saturday afternoon, no one was home where the shootout occurred, but the front door was still open.

The street is lined with small, one-story houses. It comes to a dead end about 50 yards east of the home.
