Political analyst, author Fareed Zakaria to return Monday to OU

— Fareed Zakaria, an international political analyst and best-selling author, is scheduled to speak on “America and the Rise of the Rest” on Monday at a President's Associates dinner and lecture at the University of Oklahoma.

A 6 p.m. reception, followed by the 6:30 p.m. dinner and Zakaria's keynote address, will be in the Molly Shi Boren Ballroom of OU's Oklahoma Memorial Union, 900 Asp Ave.

The dinner will be preceded by an informal discussion for students at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.

“Fareed Zakaria is one of the nation's leading public intellectuals,” said OU President David Boren. “He has focused our attention on the challenges America faces in adjusting to a new world environment.”

Zakaria is a contributing editor at Time magazine, writes a column for The Washington Post and has served as editor of Newsweek International, overseeing all of Newsweek's editions abroad. His cover stories and columns reach more than 25 million readers each week.

His latest book “The Post-American World” is about the growth of China, India, Brazil and other countries, and what it means for the future.

In 2009, he spoke at OU regarding how President Barack Obama should reshape America's foreign policy.
