The new name should be the oklahoma city REDMEN,due to all the oklahoma tribes that are in oklahoma.

Jeff- the Knights is a terrible name.
Why not pick a name with some significance, and do a logo and them around that.
Why the hell would they be called the knights here in OKC?

It's amusing to read the comments from former Sonics fans in the Great Northwest. It seems that the sour grapes that they are eating has them trying to put evil spells on the new team in OKC. Hey guys, that doesn't work...

I like the Oklahoma Stampede or the Thunderbirds.

the Lights, the Gamblers, the High Rollers, the Aces, the Black Jacks, the Sinners, the Area 51ers... all fitting names as the franchise will eventually be moved to Las Vegas anyways. And YOU will be left footing the bill.

Mark get a life and go read about every other franchise that has moved in the past 50 years. This situation is not unique and Seattle is not a victim.

Robber Barons and Outlaws condemns you to a lifetime of being "the team that was stolen from Seattle." So those could work. Energy, T-birds, Thunder, Twisters all sound like WNBA or minor league baseball teams. No merchandise will be sold outside of OKC.

I guarantee the name has already been chosen. Revel in your fantasy names and colors, enjoy this while you can.
Remember, this is not your team.
This is Clay Bennet's team and he will do with it whatever he wills.
Enjoy the team while you can, this is not a permanent thing. This is a business. Clay Bennett approached this aquistion, from the get go, as a businessman not as a fan. Your comments, concerns, dedication, fanatisism or anything else does not matter. Only your money, directly from your pockets and/or through forced municipal, county or state taxes are all that matter.
He is a businessman, he owns a business and he has placed it in an area that is starving for a pro team. He will take as much of your money while he can. After the newness wears off and your team suffers from years of poor managerial decisions, your star players leave for more lucrative contracts available in bigger markets, your team is perrenially fighting to stay out of the division (or league) basement, as fan enthusiasm wanes, attendance drops, profits turn into losses and the realization that you've been taken for a ride by a savvy businessman sets in, the team will be sold and/or moved.
Remember this is about making money not pleasing the fans. I know, I've seen it happen... After 41 years in Seattle, the SuperSonics are gone.
Remember, as Clay Bennett moves "HIS" team from Seattle to Oklahoma City, he will see the lights of Las Vegas.

The name of the team was leaked out during the broadcast of "Around the Horn" on ESPN yesterday. One of the panelist said that the name would be the thunder or the barrons when he was commenting on the team. He was not affliated with the sonics and he could have better contacts in the NBA that I think he is correct.

Matthew, I happen to know that in the Tulsa, Owasso, Catoosa, Skiatook, Vera, and Ochelata area there are approximately 954,709 people so Nathan wasn't really too far off -- given that they are procreating in Skiatook like rabbits we should hit that million mark by October. Does this mean we get an NBA team too??? Please reply back, your friend Jerry.

OKC Barons.
Nathan, you're wrong. It needs to be OKC because the people of Oklahoma City need to be given credit for approving a self-imposed tax for the Ford Center improvements. Not to mention Mayor Cornett and the OKC City Council.
Danny, Edmond - Jul 3, 2008 10:40 AM

Don't be stupid OKC...name the team the Oklahoma "something". Give the whole state a sense of ownership, and they'll show up and support more. You'll need it after the newness wares off. You'll get the city sales tax and all that, no problem...so don't get in a tiff over "well we paid for it", "we did the Ford Center", yada yada yada. Ditch the "City" in the name, and it will be so much better long term. I'm telling ya... Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies/Avalanche, Florida Marlins, Texas Rangers, Indiana Pacers, New Jersey Nets, Carolina Panthers...no one thinks those teams made a bad decision. And they have their full states support. Don't ostracize Tulsa, or you'll lose them (1 million+ in their metroplex, fyi). Makes the $250 in gas/tolls/food/parking/tickets easier to pay for a game for Tulsa folks if they feel ownership in the team.
