Ponca City-based Head Country Food Products Inc. on Thursday received the 2013 Governor's Award for Excellence in Exporting and the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Achievement Certificate.

Oklahoma Commerce Secretary Dave Lopez presented the awards during the Oklahoma Governor's World Trade Conference at the Reed Center in Midwest City.

“International trade, specifically exporting, is a vital part to the United States and Oklahoma's continued growth and potential,” Lopez said. “Today, Head Country Food Products Inc. is being recognized for successful and noteworthy effort to increase export manufacturing sales. Anytime an Oklahoma company is making locally and selling globally, that is success we should recognize and encourage.”

Head Country co-owner Paul Schatte said the company has worked to grow its international business.

“It is a pleasure to provide a taste of Oklahoma on a global perspective,” Schatte said.

Head Country shipped its first container load of products to Stockholm in August 2007.

Head Country now ships 43,000 pounds of barbecue sauce to Stockholm each month.
