MIDWEST CITY — Despite Halloween being just a day away, the Carl Albert football team suffered no scares Friday night as it pasted Durant 42-17 at Harris Stadium.
Carl Albert was led by cornerback/receiver and
Texas Tech oral commit Tre’Vante Porter. He finished with 90 yards rushing on just six carries and had a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown. Porter added two more touchdowns on runs of 9 and 65 yards.
"We just wanted to stay focused tonight and get better for the playoffs,” Porter said.
Carl Albert was solid in all phases of offense. Senior quarterback and
Oklahoma State baseball commit J.T. Realmuto had 70 yards rushing and a touchdown. Realmuto added 86 yards passing and a touchdown to Markell Walker. Running back
Kenton Whittington scored the Titans’ other touchdown on an 18-yard run.
Despite the rout, the Titans went into the game concerned with Durant’s do-everything-back
Daryn Alves. Against the Titans, Alves played everything from quarterback to receiver on offense while making an interception and delivering a few bone- jarring hits on defense.
"Our focus coming into the game was stop No. 2,” Porter said of Alves. "He is their all-purpose, all-everything guy.”
Alves finished the game with 86 yards rushing, 83 yards passing and 90 yards receiving. He also punted four times. While Alves was the busiest player on the field, the Titans’ defense contained Durant for the most part.
Alves walked away impressed.
"Carl Albert is really good,” Alves said. "They are definitely the best defense we have played against.”
Carl Albert (7-2 overall, 5-1 district) will play Harrah next week in the regular season finale. A win by Carl Albert will likely match it up with
Lawton MacArthur in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
Durant (4-5, 3-3) must beat Ardmore next week to advance to the playoffs,
