Regarding “Judge puts Morgan on probation for five years” (News, Jan. 9): As stated by U.S. District Judge Robin Cauthron, a person well liked in the community — with letters from 400 supporters — had a far greater influence than the matters at hand before the bench she represents. Political support and financial backing from influential “who's who” certainly had an effect on this decision. Another person in good standing with the same charges probably wouldn't have fared as well. A five-year probation — which means almost nothing — a $100 fine, 104 hours of community service, plus forfeiture of $12,000 not yet earned isn't a reasonable sentence. It's a slap on the wrist.
