Not so unexpected rematch
In Week 7, rivals Hominy and Woodland met in a District A-6 battle. Woodland edged the Bucks 21-14. Right before the playoffs, Hominy coach Scott Harmon and Woodland coach Joe Turner discussed the possibility of their teams meeting again in the state semifinals. At the time, it didn't seem likely, considering Hominy was unranked and would play every game as an underdog.

Harmon and Turner, however, knew better.

"We thought it was a legitimate shot that both of us could get there if we played well,” Turner said.

And after three straight Hominy upsets — the last a 28-27 thriller over No. 1-ranked Rush Springs on Saturday — the Bucks will have their rematch.

"We played the pants off Woodland over at their place,” Harmon said. "After that, we knew if we kept progressing, kept getting better, that we'd have a shot come playoff time.”

While Woodland is ranked No. 2 and Hominy is once again an underdog, don't expect those positions to mean much for either team.

"They've got a good team, and they played us tough the first time around,” Turner said. "It's going to be a battle Saturday. It's going to be a war.”

Said Harmon: "We've really set our sights on this. Here we are, both in the same district, both in the same county. There's going to be one good team in the state championship and one good one left out.”

•Bluejays nearing top 10: Guthrie's scoring output has been nothing short of outstanding this season, as the Bluejays have scored 748 points through 13 games for an average of 57.5 points per game.

If the Bluejays can score 36 points in Friday's Class 5A title game against Bixby, they would move into the top 10 all-time in season scoring for an 11-man team.
