The Sooners received 49 first-place votes to win the Big 12 South to Texas’ two. No other team was given a vote.

The Tigers received all 51 first-place votes to the North.

OU and Missouri met in last year’s Big 12 title with the Sooners winning 38-17.

Oklahoma State was picked to finish fourth in the South, behind Texas Tech but ahead of Texas A&M and Baylor.

I find it interesting that Plumley has been suppended for the season and Granger gets off with a slap on the wrist..Im proud of Coach Coales for doing the right thing.I guess Stoops is taking a page from the Switzer playbook...Its all about who makes more money folks.

...but you can rank a team with a win-loss 0-0, as evidenced by THIS preseason poll and EVERY OTHER preseason poll. I never said a preseason ranking is an indication of how a team will perform, rather a headstart in a race for the MNC. The only reason Mizzou and Kansas rose so high was because of the unusual way in which all of the top 10 were losing. Pretty much, every top 10 team had to lose before Kansas and Mizzou would ever be considered for a top 10 slot; had the original top 10 won-out, KU and Mizzou would'nt have sniffed the top 10. So, if a preseason #1 and #2 go undefeated, will a team take their place? That's my question to you.

israel, preseason polls mean nothing. Use all the asterisks you want you don't convince me that preseason polls are worth a crap. The season hasn't started and you can't rank a team with a win-loss 0-0. Polls don't mean anything until the 4th or 5th week of play unitl the 'tough' teams can get these no name colleges out of the way. (i.e. Michigan dropped with numerous losses and with the rise of Missouri and KS, which was no where to be ranked in preseason). The preseason polls mean NOTHING.

So David, do you still prescribe to your idea that preseason rankings mean nothing? Scenario: Georgia starts the season ranked #1, Ohio State #2, and Missouri #6 as ranked by Athlon Sports. Assume all of those teams go undefeated. Do you think Missouri, after beating Oklahoma (assuming they meet), Kansas, Texas (possibly twice), Nebraska, and Oklahoma State will make it to the National Championship game? If Georgia and Ohio State start at #1/2 and go undefeated, they will meet for the title because they were projected as #1/2 all along. Preseason polls do mean something in the world of college football, were no playoff system exists.

Jeff and David, congrats on being so oblivious to the world around you. Apparently, you never read or comprehended what I've been writing all along; that's your issue. As for your weak written attacks trying to discredit me as a person, just consider who here has been trying to put down the other. I haven't made one personal attack yet, even though I've been the target by many who simply don't understand the difference between a comment written personally by me and a quote from another poster.*****************************************************************************************************Remember, the first part of the comment you had issues with was written by Tu; I only quoted it for a direct response to that statement. Because of profanity, Tu's comment, part of which I quoted, was deleted by the administrator. Attack me as much as you want to. I refuse to stoop to the level at which you portray me, which just happens to be the echelon you're occupying.

I for one hope OU gets to the Big 12 Championship game and physically beats MU like they did twice last year.
The look on Chase Daniels face last year was priceless. That being said, unless the Sooners bring their "A" game every week, they won't get the opportunity. There is such parity in college football these days, it just depends on which team shows up. Boomer Sooner! Natl. Champs 2008!!

Okay David, you're right, I'm wrong. Preseason polls have nothing to do with how far the team goes as the season progresses. If a team starts out at #1 and goes undefeated while an unranked team goes undefeated, I'm sure there is actually a chance that undefeated team might take the place of the preseason #1 in the national championship.

Preseason polls mean nothing.*****************************Not necessarily. That statement is correct in saying they have no indication of how a team will perform. However, they do have a lot to do with where a team ends up at the end of the year. If OU starts at #2 and goes undefeated, chances are they'll end up in the title game. If a #24 goes undefeated, they're at the mercy of the many teams who were ranked in the top five preseason. At that point, a one-loss team could prevail if, preseason, everyone thought they were good enough.

Hope that we finally see the Sooners come to play at the intensity with which they should.just one other point here for the others....I'm probably not the weathiest of people here, but have all that I need...

Go ape or whatever, but TCU, Cincinnati, KU, NU, UT, aTm, Tech, and OSU are all games which, if the Sooners do not 'bring it' and the other team does, they could be in trouble. I would just hope some lesson was learned last year from both the Colorado and West Virginia games. I understand the situation at Tech, but the other two losses, well, were inexcusable.
