"I'd rather not play against them, so he could work on things," Maddon said. "You try to shy away from teams that you're going to play often in our division. That's more important to me than David pitching four innings tonight."
Showalter said his team isn't nervous about facing Price in a few days.
"Guys are just trying to tune up, getting ready to start the season, and he was pitching," Showalter said.
In 17 Grapefruit League innings, Price allowed four earned runs and 20 hits. He struck out 20 and walked four.
"It was good to lead up to the next few days. My body feels great. It all feels ready for April 2," he said.
NOTES: The Rays have picked their fifth starter, and Maddon said he would announce it on Friday. The choice was between RHPs Roberto Hernandez and Jeff Niemann.
