Victor Gorin (Your Views, Aug. 5) is under the misconception that the private sector couldn't exist without the government. If not for the private sector and all who it employs, there would be no tax base for our government to exist. Taxes paid by the private sector allow our government at all levels to employ police officers and firefighters, create and maintain roads and highways, and operate public schools. All levels of government would cease to exist if it weren't for the private sector.
It seems as if the majority of our politicians, as well as some government employees at the federal, state and local levels, have forgotten that they're there to serve the citizens, and not vice versa.
