Proper foot treatment education is only a step away in Oklahoma
Jerry Wilson has worn a heel lift in his left shoe for the past 20 years, and wishes he’d worn it sooner. He believes it could have prevented back problems and arthritis he suffered because his left leg is two inches longer than his right, which he broke three times in high school playing football.

→Training: 120 hours in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, patient assessment, footwear fitting and fabrication of devices, followed by 1,000-hour practicum. Certification exam administered by The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics Inc. and The Board of Certification and Accreditation/International. Oklahoma requires pedorthists be licensed.
→Annual salary: $30,000 starting to $80,000 high.
→Necessary traits: Interest in medicine and helping people; initiative to learn and stay abreast of new developments.
